FAIRTRADE
Fairtrade means exactly what it says: fair trade. Fairtrade Labelling Organisations (FLO) is a non-profit commercial society that is based on social responsibility and which aims to ensure equity in international trade.
Fairtrade is a social movement, the stated aim of which is to help producers in developing countries achieve better trading conditions and to promote sustainable agriculture. It is based on three basic beliefs: first, the producers have the power to express unity with consumers. Second, current global trading practices promote the unequal distribution of wealth between nations. Finally, buying products at a fair price from producers in developing countries is a more efficient way to promote sustainable growth than traditional aid.
Certification operates as a chain in which everyone is certified, including the producer and industry, in such a way as to ensure the entire production chain follows the fair trade rules.
